Perspective and Storytelling: Exploring 1-Point Perspective in the "What's On Your Table?" Project

Perspective and Storytelling: Exploring 1-Point Perspective in the "What's On Your Table?" Project

Understanding spatial depth and structure allows young artists to transform a flat canvas into a rich, three-dimensional visual narrative. In our Open Art class at Rookids BGC, students explored the foundational principle of one-point perspective through the imaginative prompt, "What's on your table?"

By establishing a central horizon and front-facing viewpoint, the children learned how surfaces extend away from the viewer to create depth. On these newly structured tables, each student thoughtfully arranged their favorite personal objects, meticulously rendered fine details, and integrated a self-portrait character to anchor their scene.

This project balanced formal technical training—such as line structure, brush control, and spatial placement—with authentic self-expression. At Rookids BGC, we empower children to master the structural elements of art, giving them the technical foundation needed to communicate their inner world with visual clarity and artistic confidence.

Rookids provides a thoughtful learning environment where children grow through curiosity, connection, and purposeful play. With gentle guidance and age-appropriate experiences, we nurture each child’s natural rhythm; never rushed, always meaningful. Our programs blend sensory exploration, creative expression, and structured routines, offering a balanced approach that supports cognitive, emotional, and physical development. Using trusted methods and thoughtfully designed materials, we focus on creating learning moments that feel warm, intentional, and part of a child’s everyday life.
