What if a self-portrait wasn't about painting your eyes, nose, mouth, and ears? What if it was about painting your personality, feelings, and imagination instead?
In this premium acrylic painting workshop with internationally exhibiting visual artist Tita Halaman, children created abstract self-portraits using expressive colors, rich textures, and exciting techniques such as impasto and wet-on-wet blending.
Rather than painting what they looked like, they painted who they are through their own silhouettes. They paused to reflect, told stories through color and symbolism, and even titled their own artworks, just like real exhibiting artists.
Beyond learning painting techniques, children were introduced to basic art appreciation, discovering how every brushstroke, color choice, and texture can carry meaning. At Rookids, children leave with not only a finished painting, but a deeper appreciation for art as a meaningful way to observe, imagine, and most importantly, to express who they are.
